it could be related to optimization
I noticed that new feature linker optimization may take forever
(I have ~1000 files project it takes about 30 min to build with gcc
4.2 without linker optimization
but I had to cancel the build after about 10h)

Hi,
When building a large open source C++ library with gcc 4.0, my build
time was about 300 minutes. I've switched to 4.2 (no other changes),
and the build time has roughly doubled.
Has anyone else noticed poorer build times with gcc 4.2?
Cheers,
