Once you've downloaded and installed a doc set, you can copy that doc set to another Mac without a problem.

Here's my previous question:

"I went to download the Core Reference Guide. Part way through, I get an alert, something like "running low on disk space". So I cancel shuffle off an iphone SDK and restart. Now I've got 2.1 Gigs free. I try again. Same message, reporting the same problem. So how much disk space do I need to get the download to take?"

I just tried this out and the download for Core Reference docs is a xar file under 300MB. Pacifist tells me this expands to a docset bundle that's under 900MB. Maybe the decompression process needs some scratch space. Maybe you could free up a few more megabytes by deleting the build directories from your Xcode projects.
