Unfortunately, when doing this search, Xcode starts the search, gets a few matches, and then just hangs. I tried this one two machines (PPC and Intel iMacs), Tiger and Leopard, and with Xcode 2.4.x and 2.5. Using Thread Viewer, I can see that the threads are running but are Waiting on locks, semaphores, condition variables and the like. I let this search go overnight and it's still hung. I am certain it shouldn't take this long since I've done other searches of the same folder structure and it doesn't take more than a minute.

My usual advice is to file bug reports, but unless you can reproduce that problem in Xcode 3.0 or later, it might not be worth the effort.

Also, is it true that Xcode 3 ignores CVS folder by default now. If so, is there any way to override this behavior?

You're right in that Xcode will skip over CVS folders (.svn folders too btw.). I don't know of any workaround for this behaviour. Please file a bug report / enhancement request if you'd like to see this changed.
