Agreed!
It is the particular GUI front-end over GDB that is the issue, Xcode
in this case. GDB, at its command line abilities, is extremely powerful.
For example, the ddd program in an X11 environment, in many aspects
provides a more powerful GUI over GDB than does Xcode. And that was
true well over a decade ago!
You want pretty, or you want power? We can't seem to have it quite
all... yet! Keep at it Apple!

It's not gdb that's at fault. On Linux, gdb works just fine, and the
GUI front-ends, while generally incredibly ugly, are more than capable
of dealing with complex datatypes such as arrays and structs.
