Thanks for making me look a third time. It was in fact such a stupid error as using different certificates for signing and validation (their names differed only by the words «Development» vs. «Deployment»).

Which teaches us (or rather: me) that when looking twice is not enough, one has to look but trice …

I can't see anything wrong with what you're trying to do; a similar thing works fine for me which suggests you've got a problem somewhere else.
