NSMatrix of text fields

I've got an NSMatrix of text fields. In IB I connected the matrix selector to an IBAction method in my controller. When the matrix is set to List mode in IB, clicking on any of the text fields invokes the action method. But nothing happens if the matrix is set in any other mode.

I want to have the matrix in Radio mode. Can someone tell me what's happening here?
