Xcode 3 now upgrades?

  • Subject: Xcode 3 now upgrades?

The received wisdom on Xcode and Project Builder had always been that if you wanted to update, you should first uninstall the existing version. There had been a disaster some years ago with an incremental installer: The installer would proceed if you had an Xcode already in place, but the result might be an unreliable chimera. Or so I understood, and this is what I advised in the introduction to my book.

However, I just noticed that the "About" PDF, and the label on the downloads page, now proffer the installer for upgrading Xcode 3 in- place.

Is upgrading without uninstalling really the better way to go now? I guess the answer might be, "that's what the documents say, and they mean it," but I'd like to be sure before I put the news/correction on the book's web site.
