I upgraded 3.0 -> 3.1.1 a couple of days ago, and was surprised to find that Tools/uninstall-devtools.pl was MIA. Looks to me like they really, really mean it.

The received wisdom on Xcode and Project Builder had always been that if you wanted to update, you should first uninstall the existing version. There had been a disaster some years ago with an incremental installer: The installer would proceed if you had an Xcode already in place, but the result might be an unreliable chimera. Or so I understood, and this is what I advised in the introduction to my book.

However, I just noticed that the "About" PDF, and the label on the downloads page, now proffer the installer for upgrading Xcode 3 in-place.

Is upgrading without uninstalling really the better way to go now? I guess the answer might be, "that's what the documents say, and they mean it," but I'd like to be sure before I put the news/correction on the book's web site.
