Bound matrix disappears

I used IB to put a matrix of buttons in a view. I connected it to an IBOutlet in a class that's contained in the nib. The matrix appeared just as it should when I ran the programme. Then I bound it to an array controller. Now when I run the programme the matrix has disappeared. What's going on?
