A big thank-you to several folks who responded off-list.
I did a bit of rooting around in com.apple.Xcode.plist, and found that
this was the offending entry:
<key>PBXNavigatorGroupDefaultFrame</key>
<string>{{-1702, -1}, {1356, 1178}}</string>
I removed that pair (with XCode not running!), and now my windows seem
to open properly.

opened almost all the way off of the left side of my screen, with

I've tried to reset the default window position (using the
"Defaults...") option in the Window menu, but it doesn't happen. As
soon as I Command-double-click on a symbol to open its definition,
the window that opens is again off the right side of the screen.
I'm using only one monitor (although I've previously used two).
I've quit and re-launched XCode. I've rebooted the machine.
Is there a solution to this problem?
