Hi Dave,
I have been able to resolve the problem with you
guidelines and reading the documentation. They've changed adding
profile in Xcode now and I was trying to use my old knowledge with new
version. Can't thank you enough. And ya, never heard from Apple support
so far, neither forums.
My apologies for bothering this list but at the end, I found help here. Thanks!

The only place a "+ sign" appears in the Organizer within a "Provisioning section" is under the device entries. The plus button at the bottom left of the Organizer window won't let you add a profile, so it can't be that. If you see information on the right pane of the window about a device, and you're using the plus button there, then you're telling Xcode to install the profile and use it on that device. You can't do that with an App Store distribution profile. You can either drag the profile to the Xcode icon or drag it to the Organizer's gray left column and it will be added to your profiles without adding it to a device.
If you already dragged the file to the Xcode icon, that should do it. In that case, if you have the "PROVISIONING PROFILES" item in the left column spun down, you should see it.
Of course, just telling Xcode about the profile doesn't mean that your build settings are configured to use it. In fact, if you're just adding the profile now and haven't modified your configuration's "code signing" prefs, then your build certainly won't be configured to use the new profile and you'll see the error you mentioned.
Configuring those distribution build settings is another matter, but that's well documented. First, make sure that you're adding the profile to Xcode, but not trying to associate it with a device (in other words not via the Provisioning Profiles section in the right pane of a device entry), but as described above.

I'm trying to associate the profile with Xcode. For this, I go to Xcode->Window->Organizer and then I would press + sign in the "Provisioning" section. Selecting the profile now gives this error. In the pas, when I was on version 2.1, I didn't see this error. That time, once the profile is selected, it would appear in the "Provisioning" section list.
I just tried to drop the profile on the dock icon. It doesn't give any error but at the same time it won't add the profile in "Provisioning" section list. Once I press Build, I get error message saying a valid provisioning profile is required. I'm sure the profile is not invalid. Its the xcode denying to add it as a reference.
Thanks,
Atiq
