I agree.
1. File bug-report with Apple. Wait for changes to OS and apps.
2. Find a battery-level monitor that leads to suitable user action.
3. If #2 can't be found, write one.
4. Improve #3 to send save-all-and-quit messages to Xcode.
5. ???
