problems running Cocoa examples in XCode

Hi,
the ReadMe files in many of the example programs in the Cocoa documentation state them to have been written in Project Builder, e.g. 
http://developer.apple.com/samplecode/TrivialThreads/index.html

or
http://developer.apple.com/samplecode/SimpleThreads/index.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/DTS10000756

I have failed to find any way of opening these examples in XCode.
Please point me at the appropriate documentation. 
I have not yet to find the words to tease the world's favourite search engine into giving me a useful answer.
