All of a sudden my Xcode (3.1.3) snapshot fails with the following message:

I have restarted Xcode, rebooted my machine, but the issue remains the same.

I can still see my existing snapshots.

A Google search came up with a couple of links, but I didn't see a real solution.

Any help is highly appreciated.

This is a bug in Xcode 3.1.x that has been fixed in a later version of Xcode. Your best bet is to quit Xcode, delete Snapshots sparseimage file, and let Xcode recreate it. You will lose access to earlier snapshots. But in some cases, this symptom is associated with Xcode deleting your project files when restoring from a snapshot, so I wouldn't trust them at this point.

Remember that snapshots are primarily for short-term "mass undo"; they are not an archive or repository. Back up your sources with Time Machine or check them into an SCM repository for secure rollback.
