One thing that finally got me through is figuring out that that there is
a bug in the xCode organizer.

On a side note it looks like the provisioning profiles downloaded from the iPhone portal, for a couple day period last week, omitted certificate information. This caused Xcode to not be able to correlate your private key with the selected provisioning profile. Not sure if this affected all accounts our just an unlucky few.

BTW, maybe everyone but me knew this, but if you want to debug on the
phone itself, you have to permanently destroy your $700 iPhone for any
normal use (like telephone).

Huh? I debug on my iPhone 3G S without issue. If you are using pre-release OS build yeah that may be a limitation but released OS builds no.

I'd like to know more about this too. I remember when I started developing in December 2008 and there were a few "warnings" about using your main phone for development, but that people were doing it. I clicked the "use for development" button and everything worked fine on my 3G. I later bought an iPod Touch instead of loading 3.0 betas onto my phone until the GM came out. I just purchased a 3GS (my wife is getting the 3G) and was planning to use it for development also with officially released versions (no betas) along with the iPod Touch. Is there an issue with this?

Thanks,
Dave
