For recent versions of the OS, I usually go for 40-50 GB, although I'm
not using any more than 20GB on any of my OS partitions, it's good to
allow some breathing room (some apps insist on installing on the boot
partition, swap files can take up multiple GB if memory gets really
tight or when sleeping a portable, etc.)
