Newbie question: Can't get Xcode "Build & Run" to run

Have just started using Xcode and am having trouble getting my first project to compile correctly.

Here are the 2 errors I'm getting:

fatal error:  can't get precompiled header var/folders/Ln/...
error: couldn't create directory /var/folders/ Ln/...

What settings do I need to change in order to get my first project to compile and run?
