Icon Composer has a preview pane that allows you to view an icon at different sizes and against different backgrounds. One option is to have a "Custom Color", but I cannot see how you set the custom colour. Can anyone enlighten me?

For me, running the Xcode 3.1.4 tools on Leopard, picking that menu item brings up a color picker panel. I'm not at my Snow Leopard system to test there. Could it be that the picker came up in an odd location that you're not noticing? Unfortunately, Exposé is no help in finding the panel, since it doesn't participate in Exposé (which is typical for panels).

You might try deleting Icon Composer's preferences file to reset the location of that panel. Or at least try:

defaults delete com.apple.IconComposer "NSWindow Frame NSColorPanel"

Thanks Ken. I also wondered about whether it was coming up off the screen or on my second monitor. I tried deleting the preferences to no avail. I also ran the defaults delete command, with this response:

2009-11-08 01:00:45.923 defaults[304:903]
There is no (NSWindow Frame NSColorPanel) default for the (com.apple.IconComposer) domain.
Defaults have not been changed.

BTW I have also tried all of the above on my MacBook Pro as well as my iMac, with the same (lack of) result.

So, mystery abounds. Thanks for the suggestions anyway.

Same for me on 10.6.1. Look like a bug in Xcode 3.2.1.
