Hammer folders in the Organizer files list?

Xcode 3.2.1

I've been doing some further work with the Organizer as a makefile IDE, and I'm curious about the folder icons it uses.

When I first put the project directory into the Organizer, that directory was shown as a folder with a hammer on it; all others had simple folder icons. When I ran the ./configure script from the Organizer Build menu, a few subtrees picked up hammers. Doing a "make all" put hammers on more directories.

Try as I might, I can't see what the hammers mean. They appear on some directories whose mod dates have changed, but not on others. The ./ configure I'm working with mostly creates Makefiles, but occasionally others: There seems to be no correlation between file creation and the hammer.

The documents are light on using the Organizer for builds (I admit an external build system project is much saner), and I can't find anything on this detail. I'm very curious. Has anyone figured this out?
