It's actually a list of all applications anywhere on a mounted disk
that know how to open that file type.
Xcode is never in this list and I want to know if there is a way I
can put Xcode in this list? Even better if I could have it be a
"Recommended Application" and show up right on the top level there.
I always have to go hunting my hard drive to open files like
'Makefile' with Xcode.
Xcode shows up for me when I right-click a typical "Makefile". Weird.
What other apps show up for you? Just ones that know how to open text
files?
If you double-click the Makefile, what application opens it by
default? (If you get an error about there not being an app that can
open it, then that file isn't being recognized as text for some reason.)
If you want a file to open with Xcode by default, do a Get Info on it
in the Finder and set the "Open With:" pop-up to Xcode.
