You mean XIBs are editable text, not ASCII. They're UTF-8 XML files.
I think I mean they are unicode runtime images stored as escaped UTF-8
XML files, which results in ASCII files that have serialized escaped
encodings where each 8 bits represents an ASCII character (a 7 bit
store) but whose meanings take on escaped unicode encodings embedded
into a tag structure that is XML, but I shortened that description to
"ASCII". Maybe there are some un-escaped bytes in there, not sure
about that. Hope my text editor (TextEdit) reads and writes the bytes
without mutating them autonomously.
