File an enhancement request for the thing you want and in the mean time design your application in a way that IS supported, especially when you have Apple engineers specifically telling you not to do something.
I filed an enhancement request, and it was marked as a duplicate of
one whose number places it in late 2008 or early 2009. So I'm not
holding my breath.
Between then and now, and in the foreseeable future, you condemn every
developer to re-invent UIAlertView. Poorly.
Anyone who's not reading this thread will simply continue to take the
obvious route, so really, it's *you* who needs to file a radar: a
documentation bug on UIAlertView to state that it has a private view
heirarchy.
But the horse has already bolted: there are hundreds, if not
thousands, of iPhone apps out there with UIAlertViews containing
UITextFields. You could reject them all when they're next updated, I
suppose; but wouldn't it be better to sanction an official API?
