Xcode editor scrolls page when I open or close strings/NSStrings

The Xcode editor has the maddening behavior of deciding on its own to scroll the page up or down an arbitrary (?) amount whenever I open or close strings/NSStrings. Is this a bug or an unfortunate design? Can I stop this nuisance? I don't see anything in Preferences that appears related.
