The Xcode editor has the maddening behavior of deciding on its own

Preferences that appears related.
As near as I can tell, this nasty flaw first showed up in the Xcode
3.x series. Xcode 2.5 doesn't have this problem.
The only way I know how to eliminate it is to use the "View -> Syntax
Coloring -> None" or "View -> Syntax Coloring -> Simple Coloring" menu
options to change the current file -- the setting is saved with the
project, so it'll stick if you set it on a project file. "Simple
Coloring" looks decent.
Unfortunately while either of those options fixes the obnoxious
arbitrary scrolling problem, you also lose the function list popup at
the top of the window whenever you do this which makes it less than
ideal.
I'd sure like to know how to get rid of this problem behavior
permanently without losing the function popup list (other than just
using an external editor).
