I had "Tab key inserts tab" turned on, but turning it off doesn't make it insert spaces, even after restarting Xcode. Tab width and Indent width are both four spaces. I had Syntax-aware indenting off, but turning it on doesn't make any difference.
I tried removing the prefs file, but that didn't help. I also checked this in BBedit and TextMate, and found that both of them use the correct width for tabs in all the fixed-width fonts I have.
I also tried using Xcode from a different account, that had never been used. Same problem.
Very mystifying. Thanks for your suggestions.
