It seems unlikely that Xcode would be the source of this problem, *unless* the Nook is trying to be clever and pretending to be some kind of Apple device in order to integrate with iTunes. In that case, it's possible that the Nook might be getting itself tangled up with Xcode's iPad/iPhone support.
If I were having this kind of problem, I'd look on the system console to see if there were any interesting messages (especially from the kernel) that might explain the behaviour.
