Anyone know possible causes and work-around OR do I have to rebuild the whole
project again.

Refactoring, like so many Xcode features, relies on the Code Sense database. Rebuild the Code Sense database for your project in the project's Info window. When it's done (if the project is huge you can monitor its progress in the Activity window), try refactoring again.
