OK, I used Activity Monitor since I can do it without reading documentation.
Apple Problem ID 7736457
Summary: If I use Xcode every day without quitting, after a week or two it gets slower and slower.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch Xcode on a big project.
2. Do a project-wide search, twice (to make sure the caches are warmed up). The second time, it takes 7 seconds.
3. Work on the project for a week or two.
4. Do the same project-wide search, twice, recording the time on the second try
5. Quit Xcode
6. Relaunch.
7. Do the same project-wide search, twice, recording the time on the second try.
Expected Results:
Should always take approximately the same 7 seconds
Actual Results:
After Xcode has been running for a week, takes 20 seconds.
After relaunching Xcode, back down to 7 seconds.
Notes:
Although this is probably subjective and biased, because I didn't keep accurate records, it seems to me that other operations such as building slow down too.
A zip file with two Activity Monitor logs is attached. SampleXcodeSlow was taken during step 4, when it took 20 seconds. SampleXcodeFast was taken during step 7, when it took 7 seconds
Tests were done on my Early 2006 Duo Mac Mini with 1.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Processor and memory 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. _______________________________________________
