I don't use interdependent projects - I had difficulty getting them to work (my fault, no doubt) so I never started down that road.  Instead, I have a master build script that invokes Xcodebuild on each project in turn (in the right order, naturally).  That way I feel in control of things.  One would need to ensure that any projects one might be working on have been saved to disk, of course.  Quitting Xcode is one way to achieve that.  Or just wait a while...
