Hi,
I would like to create a framework that I can use in multiple iOS apps. I understand that currently Apple restricts the use of frameworks on the iPhone. However, I've been reading that the restriction is simply due to the fact that frameworks are dynamically loaded (and typically shared). I've found some links on the internet that claim they can create "static" frameworks that can be loaded on to iOS devices. I've tried to follow the instructions but have had only partial success.
I've tried using Xcode's ability to add subprojects however it has the annoying limitation that I have to manually manage resources. If I add new resources in the subproject then I need to make sure I add them to the appropriate targets in the parent project.
I was able to find a better solution by packaging up the resources in a bundle and then loading them through the bundle facilities. But it's still a little clumsy.
What I'm looking for is a way to package up both code and resources in a single package so that it can be easily dropped in other projects with minimal setup for the user of that package.
My team and I are fairly new to iOS development and we come from the enterprise Java world where reusable/distributable components are used all the time. What are the standard practices for developing reusable iOS components?
Cheers,
Rom
