Just anecdotal but I found XCode 4 using LOTS and LOTS of CPU during normal editing. And that's on a tiny project with something like 20 classes. I'd shudder to think how it would perform on our main Java project with 1000s of source files...
I guess the auto complete and other features just aren't particularly efficient.
I noticed this because my MacBook Pro lasts only around 3 hours when I use XCode. When I do Eclipse - which has much better auto complete and simply way more features, and our projects contains 1000s of files - I can go 6 hours easily.
I was kind of keeping an eye on it after that, and it doesn't seem to use up too much when not in use, but the CPU spikes every time I make changes to a source file. I suspected the iOS simulator, but that's not it. It's just Xcode, and it does it whenever I edit a file.
I would love to file a bug on this but not quite sure how. "It's a CPU hog" is not a very clear description...
N.
PS: I am thinking about getting a quad core i7 MBP because of XCode. Hmmm... perhaps that was their plan all along? ;)

Makes sense.

Agreed.

12 targets.

600+ modules (1,200 files)

Will do.
