Try switching back from the Simulator to Xcode after the app has launched; putting the Simulator into the background seems to unblock the app and allow it to finish launching for me (with Xcode 3.2.6).
Huh. Go figure. Switching back and forth makes it work. It must timeout or something if you just leave it and it goes back to the home screen.
