Lion Git 1.7.4.4 vs current 1.7.6

On Lion Apple installs Git 1.7.4.4 in /usr/bin/git as the default.
I installed Git 1.7.5 under SL, in /usr/local/git, since it wasn't a standard part of SL.

The Git current version is 1.7.6 which installs in /usr/local/git

What reason for Lion, other than staying current, would there be to upgrade to 1.7.6?
How, if at all, will that affect Xcode things? (Assuming that PATH is appropriately adjusted)

Does anyone bother? Or do you all stick with Apple's default?

respect....

Peter
