Thanks for all the help.  Indeed, changing my method name to *begin* with 'mutableCopy' solves the problem.

Regarding the documentation [1], it does correctly state "begins with …".  I think that maybe this has since been fixed and, that Christiaan and I are recalling an earlier version of this document.
