The capability I find most useful in Xcode 3.1 (my current IDE) is the ability to open multiple editor windows for a single source code file, divide each window into any number of independently scrollable panes, and place these editor windows anywhere I want across my desktop, which is distributed across multiple monitors. If I understand the current discussion correctly, Apple has removed this capability for Xcode 4. I hope that I have simply misunderstood the discussion. :-)

I'm not sure if it's a misunderstanding of the discussion or not, but you can still do all of what you (Stephen) suggested above.

That's good to hear. At any given time, to support software development I have documents from multiple different applications open at once. I like being able to freely interleave the display of Xcode documents with Excel, Word, TextEdit, etc. documents. So, I might have an Xcode source code file editor window displayed on the far left monitor, another Xcode file displayed on the far right monitor as a reference, and more frequently referenced documents from other apps displayed in-between. Any attempt to implement a Visual Studio style 'caged window' approach in Xcode would prevent me from freely organizing my workspace.
