The capability I find most useful in Xcode 3.1 (my current IDE) is the ability to open multiple editor windows for a single source code file, divide each window into any number of independently scrollable panes, and place these editor windows anywhere I want across my desktop, which is distributed across multiple monitors. If I understand the current discussion correctly, Apple has removed this capability for Xcode 4. I hope that I have simply misunderstood the discussion. :-)

I'm not sure if it's a misunderstanding of the discussion or not, but you can still do all of what you (Stephen) suggested above.

The main problem is that the "main" giant window cannot be resized smaller than a certain amount and therefore clutters up the screen. You spend all your time moving and resizing windows. It's VERY annoying, which, as well as all the missing features, is why I staying with XCode 3 for the time being.

Is the Toolbar customizable? If so I didn't see it in Preferences...

No, it's not (you can show / hide the toolbar, and switch between showing the labels or not, though).

Why is it not customizable? This is something else that makes it unattractive to me.

I took Xcode 4 off.

I'm sorry to hear that, we hope to see you back some day!

Make the UI more like XCode 3, e.g. have a preference for "Consolidated View", put back some of the missing features and everyone will be happy and will come back.

Cheers
Dave
