So you're arguing as you move between machines with different display configurations that it's more work to resize one window, and perhaps a couple of split views, for a single-window app compared to an open ended number of individual document windows, auxiliary windows and inspectors in a multi-window app?
That said, I agree that we (OS vendors and app developers) are doing a poor job of supporting users who switch between machines with different display configurations. I think that's true in general, not only for Xcode. Not sure how it could be improved, but it certainly could be better. Perhaps we should allow users to identify configurations that they care about (or auto-detect it), and automatically provide a separate set of preferences for anything that's related to screen coordinates / geometry.
