sdef file type in xcode

Xcode messes up links to sdef files badly. In Xcode 3.x I had set the file type of a linked .sdef file as text.sdef, that is also what I get when I choose "Default for File", and seems the only relevant choice, and also the only choice that lets me open the file as a AppleScript dictionary (which I sometimes want to check to see if there are no errors).
However, whenever I open the project with Xcode 4, the file type is magically changed to text.xml (when I later reopen with Xcode 3.x). This is not appropriate, and also does not give me the option to open as AppleScript dictionary.
Has anybody also seen this problem? How should I handle .sdef file in Xcode that is compatible, and sensible, and lets me view the file directly from Xcode (3 & 4) as an AppleScript dictionary?
Apart from that, the display of text.sdef files in Xcode 3 is inconsistent. It is never anything similar to Xcode 4 (which seems to display it using the XML highlighting), sometimes it seems to highlight as an untyped file (just black font, no special highlighting), while sometimes it uses plist highlighting. One is happening in one project, the other in another project, even though both project have the exact same settings for the .sdef file. What can be going on, why is Xcode so inconsistent?
thanks,
Christiaan
