I stupidly did not set the "Code Signing Identity" in my project's Info window (under the "Build" tab). I thought it would automatically pick it out of my Keychain.

And in case someone runs across this in the archives because they are having the same problem, my next mistake when testing receipt validation was not having an official Test Account. My regular iTunes account didn't work for testing, so I needed to go into iTunes Connect and create a special test account. Then voila, receipt validation worked.
