I can't find any documentation or discussion about it in the Apple docs, any list, forum, stackoverflow, or anywhere else. All I can find is iOS-related discussions and a lot of talk about the symbolicatecrash script, but nothing about *Mac* crashes.

I don't know, but when ever I've tried to understand how this is supposed to work, I could never find enough documentation OR the steps were far too complicated in a modern world, so I would end up leading debug symbols in the release build. Big deal.
