Googling turned up several related postings but no clear answer.
What do I need to reinstall?

Xcode 3.2.6, in particular the "system tools" subpackage or something like that. Note that after doing so, Instruments and the like from Xcode 4 won't work anymore until you reinstall its "system tool" subpackage.
