I would have agreed with you until a month or so ago. It used to be really fast, now I type a keyword into the search box and wait, and wait, and wait, minutes go by, Dash pegs a CPU, the fans start, eventually it does return with the answer, normally after about 2 minutes. I've tried everything I can think of, cut the docsets searched down to two (iOS6 and OSX10.8), hasn't made a difference. I really don't quite know where it went wrong.
I actually liked the HUD mode best, but, unable to make it work recently, I've stopped using it entirely and gone back to the Xcode docs window.
