MacOSX10.6.sdk in Xcode 4.4

Finally getting back to some old code on a new machine with Mountain Lion and Xcode 4.4 (via App Store), and I'm a little confused about support for Snow Leopard.

My app won't link because of an apparently missing Snow Leopard SDK. I see that the Preferences' Download tab lets me download "Mac OS X 10.6 Core Library" documentation, but apparently not the actual SDK itself (??).

Everyone seems to be downloading an old copy of Xcode (or dig up an old installation) and are copying the MacOSX10.6.sdk out of there and placing it in
/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/

Is that *the* solution? It feels really kludgy. Is there a more elegant way to do this?

Todd
