ok Crispin has been talking about AppCode so I downloaded it a couple of days back when it was first mentioned and stuck through a day of not knowing that function key did what. It's very good, very good indeed, my coding speed has gone up, simple tasks I do dozens of times a day like add and synthesize properties with my own backing variables are easier, function extraction, code refactoring, all much easier to do.
I haven't crashed it yet either.
I like it enough to buy it at this point although I will keep using the free demo for a while just incase I find something horrible, not expecting to. I never used any of the other JetBrains products so it's not like I'm used to the 'JetBrains' way, I had to learn from scratch but found almost everything obvious.
That's a pretty good example of an IDE which really supports programmer productivity, understands the code at more than a surface level and really makes the coding part, which is what I spend most of my time doing, easier. And this is a 1.0 release, interested to see where it goes from here.

On the other hand, $200 for a "near total solution that still requires a full install of the app you're attempting to replace.." seems quite a stretch from Free. (Only my opinion)
Well, (assuming you're talking about AppCode) it's free for open-source projects, and $99 for indies. I don't know whether or not it qualifies as a rational purchase, but Xcode would need years' worth of development to catch up with it. My work is a pleasure again, rather than a fight.
