You are forgetting the second-system effect. The new product may turn out
worse than the first as the designers keep adding all those little features
they didn't get to add to the previous system. To quote Brooks quoting Ovid:
"Add little to little and there will be a big pile".
I believe several on this list have described Xcode 4 as "a big pile" :)
