I seem to recall looking into a document in Lion or a document's directory and seeing invisible .svn directories that I know I did not add.  


I'd be really surprised if that's the case. Given how hard it is to get Xcode to talk to subversion at all, even when you want it to, hard enough that I eventually gave up with subversion and switched my entire repository to git, I don't see that Xcode would be creating .svn files under the covers for its own use. If they were .git files, I could believe it, Xcode does love git (and works best with it IMO), but .svn .. don't see that. 

It definitely does hook into the Lion document management system in a way I've never understood, but I'm a religious constant saver of files so I've never had to worry about it.
