Hello,
Recently a lot of people have been compiling about lion and or xcode. They are pretty much echoing my thoughts and feeling on the matter. I have also noticed several people defending apple and there position.
Questions are is there anyone on the list that actually works for apple? Is there anyone that works for apple that can make decisions? Can we not start a dialog with a decision maker and try to get the issues resolved instead of flooding my inbox with fighting and complaining. Or is everyone wasting there time because there are no decision makers on the list?
If feels to me that decision makes at Apple have decided to no longer needs to listen to the core users. It happened with Final Cut Pro, Apple completely changed the work flow. I think I remember reading that due to pressure from the Final Cut Pro community that Apple had to back track and put in missing features.
It happend with Xcode 4.x (I hated it since the very first beta when it was announced) and the last victim has been Lion (don't even get me started).
Please help the developer community to understand.
Did Apple try to open a dialog with a subset of developers in person? Did they question the subset of developers about the experience with developing? Did Apple give a subset of developers early beta releases (having them sign NDA's) and in person ask what they thought before releasing it to the general developer population? Did Apple contact any of the cocoa developer user groups and ask the members what they thought? Releasing a early beta to a bunch of Fan People during a WWDC event is not the same. Releasing a early beta to internal employees and asking them what they think is not the same.
There is so much more Apple could be doing to try and make the product usable than it appears Apple is doing. There is a cocoa-head developers user group in Apple's own back yard. A few Apple employees even attend it. At least there you will get a nice subset of developers to give you some feedback.
Just my 2 cents.
