I figured out how to "install" Xcode 4.3.2, but the fact it changed to a
single app bundle and had no explanation of this really threw me for a loop.
When I downloaded xcode_432_lion.dmg from the above link, the disk image
contained a single Xcode icon. I doubled clicked on it thinking that it
would install Xcode. It appeared to run some kind of installer and offered
to put my old Xcode 4.2.1 in the trash, but I had no idea how to "install"
Xcode 4.3.2. I finally gave up and used the App Store. When Xcode 4.3.2 was
installed as a single app bundle in my Applications directory, I realized
that I could have installed Xcode 4.3.2 from the disk image by simply
dragging Xcode to the Applications directory.
It would have been really nice if the disk image had a little note that
said, "To install, drag to Applications folder" or something like that. It's
quite common for applications to ship on a disk image, but usually there's a
note and even an alias to the Applications folder.
