There is a 5th option: cherry-pick. Apple does lots of wonderful things, enough that I find it worth sticking with it as an overall personal and developer computing ecosystem (dreadful marketingism, but I can't think offhand of a good alternative). But where it does things badly, I see no reason not to ditch those bits and source them elsewhere. Personally, I find Xcode 4's doc browser just egregiously bad, so have replaced it with Dash (actually for most purposes I've replaced Xcode 4 also, but 'nuff said on that topic).
Sometimes this isn't possible. But it is more often than Apple might like us to think.
