Corrupt Simulator?

I have the latest OS (Mountain Lion), the latest Xcode (4.5.2 / 4G2008a) and the latest iOS 6.0 Simulator (Version 6.0 / 358.4) on both my computers. However, after struggling through some simple updates to two of my apps I noticed the iOS 6.0 simulators are slightly different depending on which computer I'm using. Everything is fine when using my 3-year old MacBook Air, but when using my 5-year old iMac the simulator does not display the image of an iPhone 5, (or any other iPhone, for that matter). It merely displays a large vertical rectangle. I'm assuming the simulator is corrupt and, hopefully, the problem will resolve itself when I install the next update to Xcode. However, Is there some way I can just speed up the process and download & install just the simulator?
On another matter, I like the way my old, unmodified apps display on the new iPhone 5. When I submit my updates to Apple is there some way to ensure (or request) that they continue to display letterbox style on iPhone 5's?
